  generation teaching reconsidered

  was thinking about this new generation teaching, and to some extend it makes sense, let me explain.. first of all, i personally believe, it only applied to jesus time, it only made sense there, and when jesus talked about it, in the year 33, this generation certainly observed the events leading to jerusalems destruction 70 ce.

  ( even though the context does not really give much hint, since he talks about the sign of the son of man being seen in heaven etc, something that did not happen in the first century).

  the main question is, what is a generation ?.

  Old version :

  1 + 1 = 2

  OK , I can stomach this.

  New revised belief :

  1 + 1 x 607 + 1914 - 70 x 1975 + AD 70 = 2

  Does not make sense

  When does a Jehovah's Witness graduate?

  i live in a city with a few major universities.

  last thursday, i got off work, and as i hit the main avenue on my way home, i noticed people with their graduation robes and caps on.

  i saw parents ecstatic that their children were now adults, and had accomplished something both they and their parents could be proud of.

  Great comment, this is the type of thinking I always thought about but as you mentioned it was not allowed,,,,,,, no growth.

  Thanks for writing something I thought about for years, but dismissed because it was not "correct"

  Oh and thank Brother Daniels also, I should visit with him sometime soon !

  For 5 years I hung on for my wife's sake.

  My Mom died, and I saw how shallow friendship in this religion is,,, that helped me to shut the door on them for good.

  to buy a house or not... suggestions, experience, help!

  many years ago i bought a house because the government basically threw money at us and the mortgage was pretty much the same as the weekly rent in $ per week.. obviusly that has changed, here in aust real estate has gone through the roof with a house considered a bargain at $300,000 for a first home buyer.. so here i am at 47, thinking about buying a house so that when i retire, the wife and i will not have to pay rent or mortgage at all.

  we have to raise $25k more (we have 10) for deposit and fees in the next 18 months to do this.

  (offer is to buy mil house at reduced market price).

  Buying a house was one of the best things that we have done.

  Granted it takes a lot of effort financially and physically, but after a year or two it begins to grow on you. Just don't go crazy

  on the type of house you get, stay within your means.

  I know a young couple who sank EVERYTHING into a new 300,000 house here in Illinois,,,, and it didn't have air conditioning,

  (they couldn't afford it) Then they both worked two jobs just to make the payment. No vacations, no fun, just pay for a huge house that

  they hardly get to enjoy.

  Plus as you get older you can officially start to "potter" around like an old man should,,, doing odd jobs,

  plus the tax writeoff from mortgage and improvements is awesome !!!

  It takes a leap of faith, but I think that it is well worth it.

  yes an anionted sister and even some pioneers secretly must be home at 4 pm to watch this show....today my wife and i while cooking dinner...."shhh my show is on!

  " so, i watched some of it to see what's the deal.

  a bunch of pretty models were being bitchy to an old lady who didn't like what they are doing to "the company.

  Moving On after being a JW

  after leaving this religion has there been anything that you have done that is completely separate, or negative from their belief/control system.

  yet from a worldy viewpoint you make a difference,,, a positive stamp in some aspect of everyday life ?.

  for an example to get things started, one thing that i have done is trained my dog to help people in the hospital.

  For an example to get things started, one thing that I have done is trained my dog to help people in the hospital. Every once in a while I run into

  a witness and get the "you scum, you left the truth!" stare .

  What we do is very time-consuming, and at first I felt an unknown guilt for doing it, yet now everytime I go and help/visit some patients the

  good feeling I get is something that I rarely felt as a witness.( 30 years)

  So I'm curious, who has turned being a witness for years into a positive/guilt-free aspect of your current life ??

  Sister in my Congregation claims Jehovah always answers her prayers....including her new skirt and shoes for $20 bucks???

  to show you how dumb and shallow my congregation is a one of our "deeper" sisters claimed in field services that "jehovah answers all my prayers...like last week i wanted a new skirt and shoes for field service but only had $20 dollars....and would you believe i found them!!!

  now i for one though well, why didn't you pray or the oil pipe in the mexican gulf to dry up...or food for the poor in haiti.

  other pioneers tell of vegetables falling off trucks just when they had nothing for dinner???
